Spore Collective:General disclaimer

From Spore Collective

Above all else:

  1. Use your own best judgement. We are not responsible for anyone's actions other than our own.
  2. Don't do anything illegal. We hate and disapprove of everything illegal. We don't believe that anything we are doing is illegal, either.
  3. We are simply trying to provide a free, educational/informational tool with the hopes that it may help play a role in improving all life on this planet. We think that everything we have done on this site is in the public interest.
  4. Do no harm -- never hurt anyone or anything for any reason. Do not damage or destroy or threaten or intimidate or harass or otherwise abuse anything or anyone for any reason.

By above all else we mean that the above statements are the official/legal/before-god-the-almighty opinion of the Spore Collective and its critters. Regardless of anything you read anywhere else, on our site or not, these statements override everything. If something somewhere else seems to you to contradict that, then rest assured that whatever you've found that seems to contradict the above statements is not our own belief -- no exceptions. It is either something that we wrote for fictional/entertainment/artistic purposes, or we took it from someone else, who we don't agree with (and we might have forgotten where we got such an illogical, stupid idea from, but felt that we should share it to show how stupid and against-everything-we-believe-in it was...)

We never mean anything that contradicts anything in this section.

Illegal Activity, Responsibility, etc.

We do not support, condone, desire, encourage, or think anything positive of any type of illegal activity, no matter what you see that might seem to contradict that. There are a few opinions here of other people who do support illegal activity. We do not necessarily agree with what they are saying -- we merely publish their opinions here for educational purposes -- we think they are important for historical, legal, and philosophical research. The views expressed anywhere on this site (except for in this disclaimer) are not necessarily those of the authors or of the owners of the site.

Regardless of however anyone may interpret anything on this website (or on any other website for that matter) -- we are 100%, totally against EVERYTHING illegal.

If you are ever in doubt, and wonder what we would think about something illegal -- the answer is "We don't like it. And what we think is irrelevant, because you should use your best judgement and think for yourself. We are not responsible for your actions."

Use your own best judgement when you determine if and how to use any information presented anywhere on this website for any purpose.

We neither want nor claim nor believe we have any responsibility for anyone's actions other than our own. Don't blame anything on us, because it's not our fault or responsibility ...

If anyone does anything illegal, and claims that it's somehow related to or because of us -- they are lying, or completely misunderstood what this site is all about. We have no knowledge of any illegal activities that are in any way related to this site, and do not support or condone any such activities, and never intended them to occur. If anything on this site is somehow used by someone else to commit/plan/support/promote illegal acts (and we don't think it will be), then that was not at all our intention or desire.

We only want to provide freely available educational information for internet researchers.

We are solely interested in providing a free, educational/research tool for the public benefit.

Copyrights / Fair Use

Some of the content on this site is copyrighted, and is used without the permission of the rights-holders, under U.S. fair use law.

At the very least, all copyrighted work being used here without permission meets the following criteria:

  • All copyrighted work is solely being used for non-profit educational purposes. We are using these works solely towards the goal of enhancing the well-being of the public, and are making absolutely no commercial gains from the material used.
  • We have consistently minimized the portion of the work used -- images have been cropped and resolution lowered as much as we can do so, and we have always used the smallest portion of text that we need.
  • We do not feel that any of the copyrighted content is being used in a way that would interfere with the rights-holders' commercial interests. Most of the content is old, and probably has no commercial value. And even in the case of works that might have some value, we highly doubt that our use here will in any way interfere with the commercial opportunities of the rights holders.
  • We feel that the way in which we have synthesized these copyrighted works and our analysis of them, are creating something new and different out of them, which is highly beneficial to the public.
  • We have only used copyrighted material when we have been unable to find a satisfactory free alternative, or when we feel that any free alternatives will not be reliable (i.e. the URL might change, or the remote site might go down).

If you are a rights-holder to copyrighted work used on this site, and do not feel that your work can be used under Fair Use guidelines, please contact Jesse R. Taylor, and he will discuss it with you.

Some copyrighted works have a further fair use criteria included (along with those listed in this general disclaimer) if we feel that there is something additional that needs to be said about our reasons for using a particular work.

See United States Fair Use law and United States Copyright law.

Using our content

We are releasing everything that we have created ourselves under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license. In over-simplified and inaccurate terms, this means that you can copy it and give it for free to whoever you want, without our permission. All we ask is that you never sell it to anyone, and that you link to where you got it on our site ... but, please read the license for a more accurate description.

As far as anything we've used which is copyrighted, and reproduced in accordance with U.S. fair use law, it is not our responsibility how or if anyone else chooses to use it. Our suggestion is that in all cases, they obey all applicable laws and regulations, and only use content when they themselves feel that it is legal to do so.
